// What this course is

Five days. One complete website. Live on the internet by Friday.

This module of Digital Marketing Foundations teaches WordPress from install to deployment: a practical, build-first program that takes you from zero to a fully functional, professionally designed, SEO-ready website without writing a single line of code. WordPress powers 43% of all websites on the internet, and the ability to build and manage one is immediately useful in marketing, communications, operations, and independent project work.

AI is present throughout, for drafting page content, generating images, and assisting with SEO copy, in a supporting role that accelerates production without replacing the design and editorial judgment that makes a website work.

// The program - day by day

From local install to a live five-page website

Get WordPress running locally and plan the site architecture before you design a single page.

Morning: understanding WordPress

  • WordPress.com vs WordPress.org: the critical distinction, why self-hosted (WordPress.org) is almost always right for professional use
  • Domain and hosting: what each is, how they relate, choosing a provider (Hostinger and SiteGround are both well-priced for India)
  • Local development with Local WP: the free tool that lets you build on your computer before going live
  • Installing WordPress: the five-minute install, what each setting means
  • The WordPress dashboard: navigating Posts, Pages, Media, Appearance, Plugins, Settings

Afternoon: site architecture

  • Planning the site before building it: what pages you need, what each page's purpose is
  • Pages vs Posts: the distinction that confuses every beginner
  • Creating the essential pages: Home, About, Services, Blog, Contact, as blank pages first
  • Categories and menus: organising content, building the navigation

Hands-on

A local WordPress installation running, all essential pages created, navigation menu built. An About page written using AI assistance, edited for accuracy and voice.

Choose a professional theme, customise it, and build a homepage with Elementor that looks great on desktop and mobile.

Morning: themes

  • What themes are and how they work
  • Choosing the right theme: Astra and OceanWP as the two best free options for professional sites, and why
  • Installing and activating a theme
  • The Customiser: header, footer, colours, typography, the visual controls

Afternoon: Elementor

  • Why page builders exist: the gap between themes and beautiful pages
  • Elementor Free: the drag-and-drop interface, sections, columns, widgets
  • Building a homepage from scratch: hero section, features section, testimonials, call to action, footer
  • Mobile responsiveness: viewing your design on mobile within Elementor, fixing layout issues
  • Global colours and fonts: maintaining consistency across pages

AI for design

  • Using Canva AI and Adobe Firefly to generate hero images and section backgrounds that match your brand
  • AI-written homepage copy: headline, subheadline, benefit statements, edited for voice and accuracy
  • The consistency rule: if AI generates the image, you review it for brand alignment before publishing

Hands-on

A fully designed homepage live in local development: professional appearance, mobile responsive, real content rather than placeholder text.

Install, configure, and understand the must-have plugins that make a WordPress site secure, fast, and functional.

SEO: Yoast SEO (free version)

  • What Yoast does: title and meta tag management, readability analysis, XML sitemap generation
  • Configuring Yoast: site title, separator, social profiles, sitemap settings
  • Using Yoast on a page: the green/amber/red traffic light system, what each signal means
  • The limits of Yoast: it is a tool, not a strategy

Forms: WPForms (free version) or Contact Form 7

  • Building a contact form: the fields, the layout, the confirmation message
  • Connecting the form to an email address
  • Anti-spam: honeypot, the basics of form security
  • Embedding the form on the Contact page

Security and backups: Wordfence (free) and UpdraftPlus (free)

  • Why WordPress sites get hacked: the volume of attacks, the common entry points
  • Wordfence basics: firewall, malware scan, login protection
  • UpdraftPlus: scheduled automatic backups to Google Drive, how to restore

Performance: WP Super Cache or LiteSpeed Cache

  • Why caching matters: page load speed, the SEO and user experience impact
  • Installing and enabling caching: the one-click speed improvement

AI for plugin management

  • Using Claude to explain what a plugin does before installing it
  • Asking AI to diagnose a plugin conflict when something breaks: describing the symptom, getting a methodology for identifying the cause

Hands-on

All four plugin categories installed and configured, a working contact form embedded in the Contact page, Yoast configured with correct site settings.

Publish real blog content, optimise it for search, and run the full AI-assisted content workflow from keyword to published post.

Content production

  • Writing blog posts in WordPress: the block editor (Gutenberg), formatting, adding media
  • Categories and tags: the organisational structure, how they affect navigation and SEO
  • Featured images: the image that appears in listings and social shares
  • Internal linking within posts: connecting related content

SEO in practice

  • Using Yoast on a blog post: optimising the focus keyword, title, meta description, readability
  • Image optimisation: compression before upload (Squoosh), descriptive filenames, alt text
  • The page speed check: running PageSpeed Insights, interpreting the results, the quick wins

AI content workflow on Day 4

  • Write a 600-word blog post using the AI-assisted workflow: keyword identified, brief written, AI draft, human edit for accuracy and voice, Yoast-optimised, published
  • Generate a featured image using Canva AI that matches the post topic
  • The published post is real, live-ish content that demonstrates the full workflow

Hands-on

Two published blog posts, both Yoast-optimised, both with real featured images, both with internal links to other pages on the site.

Take the site live on the internet and present a complete five-page website as your final assessment.

Morning: going live

  • Purchasing a domain and hosting: the process, the costs, what to look for (Hostinger starts at ₹99/month for India, adequate for most small sites)
  • Migrating from local to live: All-in-One WP Migration plugin, the process, common issues
  • Domain connection: pointing the domain to the hosting server, propagation time
  • SSL certificate: installing the free Let's Encrypt certificate, forcing HTTPS
  • Google Search Console: verifying the live site, submitting the sitemap
  • Pre-launch checklist: all pages reviewed, all links working, contact form tested, mobile checked

Afternoon: final project

Build and deploy a complete five-page website:

  • Home: hero section with headline and CTA, three key services or benefits, a testimonial or trust signal, footer
  • About: story, team, mission, AI-assisted copy, human-edited
  • Services: what you offer, clearly described, with pricing if appropriate
  • Blog: at least two published posts, Yoast-optimised
  • Contact: working form, address if applicable, map embed if applicable

Assessment

Present your live website in five minutes: explain one design decision, explain how you would add more content after the course, and answer one "what would you do if a client asked for X" question.

You leave with: a live website on the internet, a GitHub-equivalent skill (WordPress) for web presence management, and the ability to build this for a client or employer.

A live website and a practical skill employers recognise

Website Executive Junior Web Designer Digital Marketing and Content Roles Freelance Web Design NGO and Community Web Management Small Business Online Presence

This course equips you for building and managing websites professionally, for an employer, a client, or your own projects. It prepares you for junior web designer or website executive roles at agencies, NGOs, and small businesses, digital marketing and content roles where website management is part of the job, and independent web design work for local businesses, schools, and community organisations in Tiruvallur and the surrounding area.

What you take away: a live website on the internet, a working knowledge of the WordPress ecosystem, and the ability to build, maintain, and improve a professional website without external help. The final project is a five-page live site, a real portfolio piece that demonstrates the skill directly.

// Delivery modes

Pick a mode that fits your life

In-Person

Tiruvallur campus: hands-on build sessions with immediate help when a plugin breaks or a layout will not align. Recommended for first-time WordPress users who benefit from seeing the full workflow in the room.

Online

Live instructor-led sessions via Zoom or Google Meet. Screen sharing, live building, shared exercises. The same five-day curriculum and the same final project, you need a reliable internet connection and the discipline to build along rather than watch.

Hybrid

Attend in-person for setup and Elementor days if you can, then switch to online for content and deployment once the local site is running smoothly.

All three modes deliver the same curriculum and the same assessment. No mode is a reduced version.
